After Highschool and before attending college, Kelvin devoted a year to train to be a professional bowler. He graduated from Western Michigan University with a degree in electrical engineering and worked on space craft at McDonnell Douglas. Years later, when his two children were very young, he went back to school at the University of Missouri St. Louis, UMSL where he earned a degree in accounting, graduating Magna Cum Laude.

He loved baseball and could quote batting averages for players from his youth to the present. Kelvin played slow pitch softball for a city and a church team for a number of years in Edwardsville, Illinois, and later in his 60s on a traveling team in Augusta, Georgia. He loved to go on bike rides, was a jogger and ran in 5K races. Kelvin served in church and as a deacon had a Sunday school class under him. He was on the finance committee, taught a Crown Finance class, and opened Sunday school by taking prayer requests and praying for the class. On Mondays he counted the church receipts and always looked forward to that. For several years he and his wife went to Conyers, Georgia to bring vacation Bible school to residents of a trailer park where he drove the bus to pick up the children and helped teach the children in the classroom. He also went to South Dakota and served with Disaster Relief for a few years and he was a Gideon. Kelvin loved his Bible and read it cover to cover many times. He was the greatest husband of 60 years, the greatest father and grandfather.
