EVANS, Ga.- Mrs. Catherine Brown, 94, resident of Brandon Wilde, beloved wife of the late William (Bill) Brown, entered into rest on Thursday, October 29, 2015. Funeral services will be private.
She was born in Hamburg, Germany on December 20, 1920 and came to the United States in 1925 and became a US citizen. She grew up in New York City, where she met her husband. They were married on November 16, 1941 and celebrated their 60th anniversary in 2001 with family and friends. She and Bill lived in many locations in the United States, before retiring to Brandon Wilde.
Kay is survived by her daughters: Ellen Weyant and her husband Charlie of Salem, OR; Barbara Libby and her husband Cliff of East Hampton, CT; and Wendy Webber and her husband Bruce of Hendersonville, NC, six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
She graduated from Julia Richmond High School in New York City and worked briefly as a secretary before starting a family. She made many friends and kept in touch with them over the years. She excelled in bowling and golf well into her 70's and shot a hole-in-one when she was 77.
Kay devoted many years to volunteer service, including typing the elementary school newspaper in Brighton, NY, serving as editor of the Park Country Club newsletter in Williamsville, NY, medical recordkeeping at Moore County General Hospital in Pinehurst, NC and sitting on the board of the Colonel Beebe Endowment Fund at Brandon Wilde. She is best remembered at Brandon Wilde as an excellent baker of chocolate chip cookies, chocolate cake, and bran muffins, which she shared with many residents and employees.
