Charles (Ret.) Maj. Van Webster

Evans, GA – Maj. Charles Van Webster (Ret.) (also known as Chuck) transitioned this life on May 4, 2018 in the comfort of his own home, with his dedicated wife and loving caretaker by his side. He was born to the late Booker T. Webster and Hattie Mae Hill (Frierson) on July 28, 1935 in Columbia, TN.

He received his high school diploma from Dayton, OH Dunbar High School in 1954, and continued his education, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from Central State University, Wilberforce, Ohio.

Upon graduation from college, Charles was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the U.S. Army Ordinance Corps as a Maintenance Officer. He served in numerous postings stateside and overseas including Germany, Korea, and Vietnam – and received several medals for bravery and heroic service including the Bronze Star. Charles retired from the Army in 1975, as a Major, after 20 years of faithful service. He then served his country another 20 years as a civil service safety inspector assigned to the Pentagon.

Charles lived a long and fruitful life and was admired by many. He dedicated his life to enhancing the lives of others through his commitment and involvement in many organizations and activities. He was a lifetime member of the NAACP, Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., and the Buffalo Soldiers to name a few. He was an avid Dallas Cowboys and LA Lakers fan.

Charles Webster’s most cherished service was to his New Zion Hill Missionary Baptist Church, where he was ordained as a Deacon in February 2009 by Rev. Dr. James A. Hogan, Sr. Pastor. Highlighting his involvement and dedication to worshiping and serving God, he was presented with the title of Deacon Emeritus in March 2018.

Charles was preceded in death by his brothers, Booker T. (Junior) Webster, Paul Webster, sister, Pauline Trammel, son, Jimmy Curry, and two grandchildren, Willie Dill and Amber Webster.

He leaves to celebrate his life, his soulmate, Mrs. Catherine C. Webster; loving children, Tony D. (Amy) Webster of Cypress, TX, Christy M. Webster of Washington, D.C., Valerie L. (Elise) Webster of Sanford, NC, Monte V. (Christy) Webster of Killeen, TX, Freddie (Diane) Curry, Mike Paschal, Kathy M. Waltower, Charles W. (Karen) Paschal, 21 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, a host of brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and many friends.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, May 12, 2018 at New Zion Hill Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. Dr. James A. Hogan, Sr. officiating. Burial will follow at Bellevue Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends on Friday, May 11, 2018 from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at the funeral home.
