Grovetown, GA- God opened His arms on June 2nd, 2015 and received Donald James Moccio into His Kingdom.
A mass of Christian burial will be on Monday, June 8, 2105 at 10:00 AM at St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Church with Rev. Michael Ingram serving as celebrant. Interment with military honors to follow at Bellevue Memorial Gardens.
Donald was born on a cool fall day, October 24th 1937 in Mt. Vernon, New York. There he spent his childhood and learned the value of family. Don served in the United States Army and realized what it meant to serve. In the summer of 1958, he met the love of his life Phyllis. They married and have been faithful companions for 56 years and moved to Lake Lincolndale, New York, where they raised their three children, Donna Gentile (Joe), Denise Valletta ( David) and Donald Moccio, Jr ( Laura). He believed if you work hard you could accomplish your dreams. After 35 years of loyal service to Flood Construction, as a heavy equipment operator and foreman Don retired in 2000 and moved to Augusta, GA. He left behind many friends but not for long. He soon joined the many clubs here in Augusta and in a few short years had friends everywhere he went. His faith was important and he became a member of St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Church. His nationality was important so he joined the Italian American Club of Augusta. Serving people is what he enjoyed so he joined the Elks Club where he served as Exalted Ruler. There he was able to give back to so many. The most important was his family; he loved his family. He had ten grandchildren, five great grandchildren, and two sisters. His wife was the sparkle in his eye. He traveled the world with her. We will miss him but we know he’s not far and although we can’t see him we know he’s watching us. We love you Husband, Dad and Grandpa.
Pallbearers will be Dominic Valletta, Anthony Valletta, Donald Moccio, III and Nick Gentile.
If so desired memorials may be made to the Augusta Warrior Project, 4115 Columbia Road, Suite 5-333, Martinez, GA, 30907.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday, June 7, 2015 from 2:00 to 4:00 PM and from 7:00 to 9:00 PM.
