Dr. Sylvia Littlejohn was born in Pacolet, South Carolina in July of 1942 to Arthur B. and Iva Smith Littlejohn. She studied at the University of South Carolina in Columbia (BA, MA, and PHD in International Relations) and taught at several local high schools and colleges (Aquinas, Evans, GMC, Paine College, Augusta College (adjunct) and the University of Heidelberg in Germany).
Sylvia was a devoted member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Augusta and of the church choir for many years which she enjoyed tremendously. She was a lover of good literature, opera, and Mary’s good food.
Sylvia is survived by her brother, Jerry (Tissie) of Charlotte, North Carolina and nephews Michael (Julie) of Oakton, Virginia, Stephen (Snowden) of Charlotte, Duwayne (Barbara) of Spartanburg, her “adopted daughters”, Cena Mayo and Scarlett Mc Glashan and by Mary Chandler, her loving partner of thirty years.
Special thanks to Dr. Suzanne Smith, Dr. Rebecca Talley, and Dr. David Williams for their care and kindness throughout Sylvia’s many years of illness.
Sylvia has donated her body to AU Health and has requested there be no service.
Donations may be made to St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 605 Reynolds St., Augusta, GA, 30901.
