MRS. ELIZABETH HOWARD GARRETT

AUGUSTA, GA – Elizabeth Howard Garrett, beloved wife of the late Mr. William Armstead “Billy” Garrett, died on Thursday, December 29, 2011 at Kentwood Nursing Home.

Graveside services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Monday, January 2, 2012 at Westover Memorial Park with The Very Reverend Robert D. Fain officiating.

A native of Hephzibah, Georgia, Mrs. Garrett had resided in Augusta since 1938. She is a graduate of Junior College of Augusta and Peabody College (presently a part of Vanderbilt University) in Nashville, Tennessee where she was elected “Miss Peabody” during her senior year. She was a member of The Church of the Good Shepherd and the Augusta Country Club. She was formerly a member of the Junior League of Augusta and an associate member of the Wayside Garden Club, but the focus of her life was always on being a devoted wife, mother and grandmother.

Survivors include her three daughters, Carolyn Pickens “Carrie” Garrett, Elizabeth Garrett Reese (Doug) and Isaetta Phinizy “Zetta” Garrett, all of Augusta; three grandchildren, Kathryn “Kate” O’Connell Klein (Jeff) of Elizabeth City, North Carolina, Elizabeth Hanson Holmes (Lee) of Edgefield, South Carolina, Ann Megan Reese Thrash (James) of Augusta; and seven great-granddaughters. She was predeceased by her grandson, A .Garrett Hanson.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to Barbara Smith and Faith Beasley of Maid Your Day and their loving caregivers. Special thanks also to Benita Lee, Betty Wilson and the staff of Kentwood Nursing Home for the excellent care given to their mother.

Pallbearers will be E.G. Meybolm, Wallace F. Palmer II, Henry B. Garrett III, C. Alexander Howard, Stephen G. Howard, Arthur J. Gay, Jr., Aaron L. Green and Richard L. Rhoden.

The family will receive friends at her residence on Milledge Road from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 1, 2012
