Evelyn Dakuras

Evelyn Dakuras, 97, wife of the late Constantine Dakuras, entered into rest on Saturday, May 10, 2014.

Evelyn was affectionately known as “Yia Yia” to her friends and family. She was a matriarch of Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church. During the Greek Festival, people could always count on her to be in Yia Yia’s corner. She was recognized locally in the community for her appearance in her grandson’s commercial for Dino’s Chicago Express. “You Better Not”!

Survivors include her son; Bill Dakuras (Sophia) of Grovetown, GA, daughter; Esther Dakuras of Danielsville, GA, six grandchildren; John, Leah, Christina, Jimmy, Paulette, Dino, 17 great grandchildren, and six great great grandchildlren. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her son; George Dakuras, two sisters; Elizabeth Harris and Mary Perry.

A Trisagion service will be held at 7:00 PM on Monday, May 12, 2014 at Platt’s Funeral Home Belair Rd. Chapel with Father Vasile Bitere officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM until 7:00 PM. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, May 14, 2014 at Transfiguration of Our Lord Chapel at Elmwood Cemetery in Chicago, IL.
