R. Gerald “Chubby” Lanier, age 78, husband of Linda Blackburn, entered into rest on November 7, 2021 at his residence.
Chubby was born on August 8, 1943 in Augusta, GA. He was a graduate of Evans High School Class of 1961. Shortly after, in 1965, he married his loving wife, Linda. They were happily married for 56 years. Chubby was a brick mason by trade, and during his retirement he enjoyed his job at KJ’s marketplace. Chubby was known for his hardworking attitude, a love of bluegrass music, and his mischievous tendencies for playing pranks on his loved ones.
Chubby is preceded in death by his father, Rufus Lanier; his mother, Minnie Taylor; and two sisters, Edna Kelly and Eula Sanders.
Additional survivors include two sons, Travis Gerald Lanier and Joel Daniel Lanier (Leslie); two daughters, Dana Marie Lanier Thompson (David) and Leisa Anne Lanier; two grandsons, Dustin Gerald Thompson and Austin Daniel Lanier; one and only granddaughter, Daylee Marie Thompson Smith (Jordan); two great grandsons, Peyton James Thompson and Preston John Thompson; and his beloved four-legged buddy, Tucker Lee Lanier.
Visitation for Chubby will be held on Thursday, November 11, 2021 at Platt’s Funeral Home on Belair Road from 6:00 until 8:00 PM. A graveside service will take place on Friday, November 12, 2021 at 1:00 PM at Bellevue Memorial Gardens with Pastor Mark Maund officiating.
Pallbearers will be Billy Lewis, Jr., Charles Sanders, Calvin Sanders, Jordan Smith, David Thompson, Dustin Thompson and Austin Lanier.
Honorary pallbearers will be Peyton and Preston Thompson.
Floral contributions may be made to Platt’s Funeral Home on Belair Road
