H. Lowery Stulb

Mr. H. Lowrey Stulb, 96, of Augusta, entered into rest January 8, 2013, at University Hospital.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, January 11, 2014, at Saint Augustine of Canterbury Episcopal Church, 3321 Wheeler Road, Augusta, with interment following at Westover Cemetery. Pallbearers are Wally Edwards, Rick Bell, Harry Vaiden, John Nixon, Clifford Carey, Bobby Lee, Jack Hudson, and Bert Hall. The family has asked that the Pastor, family members, and pallbearers arrive at the church the day of the service by 10:30 AM.
Mr. Stulb was born October 7, 1917, and was a native and life-long resident of Augusta. He was an honor graduate of Richmond Academy and received Master of Science and Bachelor of Architecture degrees from the Georgia Institute of Technology. While at Georgia Tech, he was a member of the Chi Phi fraternity and received the Alpha Rho Chi Medal of Excellence. He was also the winner of a national design contest offered by Princeton University and received a fellowship to the Princeton Graduate School. Returning to Augusta, he formed a partnership with fellow architect William D. Eve in 1945 and retired in 1984. Buildings he designed include Langford Junior High School, Butler High School, the main branch of the Augusta Richmond County Library on Greene Street, the Reese Library at Augusta State University, a research and education building at the Medical College of Georgia, the Convent of Saint Helena, Saint Augustine of Canterbury Episcopal Church, the building on the grounds of the Augusta National Golf Course known as “Mamie’s Cabin”, and the famous Sarazen Bridge on the 15th at Augusta.
He was a member of the American Institute of Architects and a past president of the Augusta Chapter. He was a member of the Augusta Country Club since the age of 12, a member of the Beech Island Agriculture Club, and a founding member and former vestryman of Saint Augustine Episcopal Church.
Mr. Stulb was preceded in death by his wife Elizabeth Dudley Stulb, son Lowrey Stulb, Jr., parents Bernard Franklin Stulb and Margaret Lowrey Stulb, and sister Margaret Archer Stulb.
Mr. Stulb is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law Dudley Stulb and wife Ingrid and Franklin Stulb and wife Janet, his grandchildren Mary Dudley Northey and husband Mark of Savannah, Georgia, Marguerite Taylor Stulb of San Antonio, Texas, and William Archer Stulb of Evans, Georgia, and great granddaughter Anna Grayson Northey.
The family will receive friends from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., Friday, January 10, at the residence at 619 Regent Road, Augusta. Additional parking is available across the street at Saint Augustine of Canterbury Episcopal Church.
