Augusta, GA---Harriet Alice Wright Twiggs passed away December 17, 2018 in Augusta, Ga. She was born on December 6, 1920 also in Augusta.

Mrs. Twiggs was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Samuel Warren Twiggs, Jr. She was the daughter of the late Dr. John C. Wright and Alice Hicks Wright. She is survived by her children Alice Twiggs Vantrease of North Augusta, SC, Samuel Warren Twiggs III (Alice Newcomer) of Augusta, GA, Barbara Twiggs Thompson (Judson McElmurray Thompson) of Brunswick, GA, and Charlotte Twiggs Thorstad (Kenneth A. Thorstad) of Augusta,GA, her grandchildren, Sarah Ann Pawlowski of North Augusta, SC, Samuel Warren Twiggs IV (Shay Funderburk) of Midlothian, VA, Dr. John M. Marks, Jr., of Kennesaw, GA, Sarah Elizabeth Marks of Gastonia, NC, John E. Gallagher, Jr., of Vermillion, OH, Catherine Alice Gallagher Newton of Brunswick, GA, Kenneth A. Thorstad, Jr., of Asheville, NC, Michelle Thorstad Smith (Steve Smith) of Evans, GA, Ashley Thorstad of Augusta, GA, and 19 great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Twiggs was a member of The Church of the Good Shepherd and a graduate of Harriet Tubman High School. She attended Shorter College and Augusta University where she graduated with a B.A. in History. She was a talented gardener and artist and taught a class in ceramics for many years at her home in North Augusta. Her love of the arts extended to the piano which she played well into her nineties. She loved to fish with her grandchildren all of whom tell loving stories about their time spent with their grandmother.

Mrs. Twiggs’ family will be forever thankful for the loving care and devotion provided to their mother by caregivers Pauline Williams and Lessie Johnson.

A graveside service will be held at Westover Memorial Park on Wednesday, December 19, 2018 at 2:00 PM with The Reverend Robert D. Fain officiating.
