John David (Jd) Black

October 27, 1925 — November 26, 2013

Evans, GA – John D. Black (JD), 88, beloved husband of 62 years to Faye Brooks Black, entered into rest on Tuesday, November 26, 2013 at his Columbia County home.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00PM on Friday, November 29, 2013 at Platt’s Funeral Home Belair Rd. Chapel with Elder Dwayne Hooven and Reverend Don Black officiating. Entombment will follow at Bellevue Memorial Gardens Mausoleum.

Mr. Black was born on October 27, 1925 in Jefferson County, GA and lived on the family farm until age 18. He joined Company B of the 341st Infantry Regiment of the United States Army in April 1944. He was awarded the Good Conduct Medal, the American Service Medal, WWII Victory Medal, European-African-Middle Eastern Service Medal with a Bronze Star, and the Asiatic-Pacific Service Medal. One war story he shared was his memory of driving into Paris, France with the Allied Army to liberate the country from German occupation. He was Honorably Discharged as Private First Class on May 14, 1946.

A member of Local IBEW 1579, Mr. Black worked as a Journeyman Electrician at the Savannah River Plant and various government facilities in Europe. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, and rebuilding golf carts. Mr. Black was happiest among his children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, siblings, four-legged companions, and his loyal and loving wife.

Mr. Black was preceded in death by his parents, the late Ozzie and Fronnie Belle Marsh Black, son, the late David Brooks Black, brother, the late Luther Black, and his sister, the late Lonnice Black Williford.

In addition to his wife, survivors include two daughters, Susan Black King (Darrell) of Dalton, GA, Lisa Black Reddish (Fred) of Odum, GA, one son, Tony S. Black of Midville, GA, three brothers, Kester Black (Betty), Jimmy Black (Vannie), Don Black (Linda), three sisters, Lois Wilcher Rhodes, Jannelle Shelton, Jean McCoy (James), aunt, Hattie Mae Marsh Todd, sister in law, Anita Black, eleven grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 1:00PM until 2:00PM on Friday, November 29, 2013.

The family requests that memorial contributions be made to Augusta Old Line Primitive Baptist Church, 3646 Old Petersburg Rd., Augusta, GA 30907.
