Joyce Dawson Dixon

AUGUSTA, GA - Joyce Dawson Dixon, 81, beloved wife of Rudolph S. Dixon, Sr. of
64 years, entered into rest Monday, November 24, 2008 at Heartland Hospice.

Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, November 26, 2008 at 1:00 P.M. at Platt’s Crawford Avenue Chapel with Rev. Donald Lumpkin and Rev. Brian La Favor officiating. Burial will follow at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Cemetery in Avera, GA.

A native of Avera, GA, Mrs. Dixon was valedictorian of her graduating high school class. She worked and retired as a secretary at Veterans Administration Medical Center at Lynwood but was mostly a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was an avid lover of animals, especially her dog, “Precious” who survives her. She was an excellent seamstress and an even better cook. Her family will miss her and her loving nature. She and her husband were members of Crawford Avenue for 60 years and recently became members of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Avera, GA.

Additional survivors include: one son, Rudolph S. Dixon, Jr., his wife Cheryl; two daughters, Sandra Gay, her husband, Eddie; Joy Newman all of Augusta; eight grandchildren, Byron Gay, his wife, Tracie; Scott Gay, his wife Nancy; Lora Alford, her husband, Gil; Allison Dixon, Ashley Hill, her husband, Nick, Whitney Dixon, Brian Newman, Jr., Brooke Maryak, her husband, Justin; eight great grandchildren and a long time friend, Harold “Chocolate” Dye who the family holds dear to their heart.

Pallbearers will be Lucius Thigpen, Jimmy Black, Ben Lockett, Ralph Newman, Tim Mundy and Billy Jowers.
