Mrs. Julia Elaine Cushman, beloved wife of 50 years of Carl Cushman, went home to be with her Lord on March 25, 2022.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM on Tuesday, March 29, 2022 at West Acres Baptist Church with the Rev. Malone Morris officiating. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park.
Mrs. Cushman was a 1969 graduate of the Academy of Richmond County. She had retired from the Columbia County Water Works department and was the former local director of the Augusta Chapter of United Cerebral Palsy. She was a member of West Acres Baptist Church. Elaine was known by many names “My Baby”, “Momma”, “Gran”, “LuLu”, “Baby Sis”, “Aunt Laine”, and “Momma E.” She loved the Lord, her family and friends with all her heart and soul. She loved music of all types. Gospel, Country, Elvis, The Beatles, and the Beach boys could be heard playing in her car or on the stereo at home. She loved to sing and had the voice of an Angel. Many friends and families were comforted by her voice at the funerals of their loved ones and church congregations were blessed by the praises she sang to the Lord. Her smile lit up the room when she walked in, and she never met a stranger. Coming to Momma’s house meant feeling like you were home and safe. There were no restaurants that could touch her food. Her chocolate chip cookies, potato salad, fried chicken, macaroni and cheese, and sweet tea were world class, just like her. If you knew Elaine, you knew she would always be there to listen and ease your worries. To her grandsons, Branson and Beck, she was the best “Gran” in the world. To her “Larome”, “Clayboy”, and “Baby Boy” she was a safe harbor in every storm and the sound of her voice eased all their fears and sorrows. Heaven has gained a new angel.
In addition to her husband, Carl, she is survived by her children, Clay and Brandon, Daughter-in-law Carey Anne, her grandchildren, Branson and Beck, her brother and sisters, John D. Ray, Jr., Bonnie Rowe, and Shirley Woodham, her cousin and forever friend, Lin “Lindy” Thompson, long time family friend, Sue Ezzyk, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Ben Waters, Steve Waters, Donald Waters, Ronald Woodham, Jr., Scott Cushman, Edward Cushman, and Alan Cushman.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday evening, March 28, 2022 from 5:00 until 8:00 PM.
If so desired, memorials may be made to St Jude Hospital for Children at www.stjude.org. As well as the International Fellowship of Christians and Jews at www.ifcj.org.
