Lois Bradley Akins

August 18, 1946 — December 27, 2022

Lois Bradley Akins, resident Augusta, Georgia, formerly of Lexington, Kentucky peacefully passed on to be with the Lord at the age of 76 on December 27, 2022.

Lois grew up as the second youngest of the eight children of Lasserre Bradley, Sr. and Mary Bradley. Their home on Tahoma Road was filled with family, friends, music, and laughter. She began studying the violin at age 11 and continued her studies as a music education major at the Women’s College of Georgia, now Georgia College and State University. After graduation she moved to Augusta to begin her teaching career and met Bill Akins, the love of her life. They established themselves in the CSRA, Bill as an avid outdoorsman and Lois as the founder of Suzuki Strings of Augusta. They were lifetime members of Augusta Old Line Primitive Baptist Church.

Lois and Bill loved hosting gatherings and bringing people together. They organized and executed large scale functions such as fishing tournaments, violin workshops, and multi-generational family events. Lois was known for her kindness, graciousness, humility, and enthusiasm for life. She unselfishly and wholeheartedly poured her tireless energies into her students and their families, and she built a Suzuki program of exceptional quality.

Lois is preceded in death by her husband Bill, her parents Lasserre, Senior and Mary A. Bradley, her sisters Dale Thomas and Jo Cook, and her brother David Bradley. She is survived by her three children, Bradley Akins (Reia), Kim Chavous (Bo), and Gwen Jenkins (Brent), ten grandchildren, Elliette Akins, Piper Akins, Audrianna Chavous, Shae Chavous, Tyler Chavous, Cassidy Elsey, Savannah Elsey, Jack Jenkins, Phillip Jenkins, and Willie Jenkins, and her siblings, Lasserre Bradley, Jr., Linda Lord, Dennis Bradley, and Judy Mahan.
