Melvin Neal Lee, a retired telephone technician and resident of Dacula, Georgia, died unexpectedly at home on December 8,2021, at the age of 80.

Melvin is survived by his wife, Connie Ivey Lee; son Kevin Lee (Cindy) of Augusta. Two stepsons: Kevin Thurmond and Chadwick Thurmond of Dacula Georgia. Four sisters; Edith Schroeder, Houston Tx.;
Lynn Cowell, N. Augusta, SC.; Iris Fields (Michael), Burnettown, SC; Lurleen Scott (Bobby), Graniteville, SC. Grandchildren: Caden Lee, Augusta; Amanda Thurmond Larson (Andrew), Stanton, MI; Caleb Hunter (Ciara),Winder GA.; Trey Thurmond, Bethlehem GA. Great Grandchildren: Cameryn Giovengo; Liam Hunter; Andrew Larson Jr.; Bella Larson; Several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Melvin Lee was born in McCormick, SC. on May 22, 1941 to Herman Lee and Genevieve Pendley. He was a proud Navy veteran, having joined the Navy at age 17. He served as a Machinist Mate on the USS Chilton APA 38 from 1958 - 1962. His travels included Italy, France, and Spain. After an honorable discharge from the Navy, Melvin went to work for the Augusta newspaper and then Borden's Dairy. His final career started in 1966 with Southern Bell which is now AT&T.
He started out as a lineman climbing poles. After advancing to other positions, Melvin was one of the few technicians who had the privilege of working at the Augusta National Golf Club providing lines for television broadcasts for the CBS network during the Masters Tournaments. Melvin retired with 39 years of service.
Melvin loved hunting and fishing; his favorite was turkey hunting. In his earlier years, he and his son, Kevin, hunted at White Oak Hunting Club in Appling. They also trout fished in North GA. In more recent years, Melvin hunted in Burke County with his nephew, Patrick. On March 30, 2010, he got 2 turkeys with 1 shot.
Melvin enjoyed Harley Davidson motorcycles, watching the Atlanta Braves, and traveling with his wife Connie and friends.
Melvin will be sorely missed by his family and many friends.

Viewing for family only at Platt's funeral Home on N. Belair Road with Graveside service and burial at 2 PM Wednesday, December 15, 2021 at Bellevue Memorial Gardens Cemetery on Wrightsboro Rd. Pastor Roger Bennett will officiate.
