Richard “Dick” Eugene Plummer

Martinez, GA - Richard Eugene Plummer entered into the presence of his Lord on November 30.

A celebration of life will be held at Whole Life Ministries, 2621 Washington Rd., Augusta, GA on December 4 at 4:00 p.m., with Dr. Sandra G. Kennedy officiating.

Dick was born February 15, 1924 in Waterloo, Iowa, the son of John and Josephine [Chevalier] Plummer. He served in the United States Army Signal Corps as a Motor Pool Sergeant during World War II. Before deploying to France and Germany, the Army sent Dick to take college courses at the University of Iowa where he met the love of his life at a lagoon across the Iowa River from the Student Union. He and Geraldyne Ruth Holdeman were married July 11, 1946. Founder and owner of Plummer Electric Service, Dick served as an electrical contractor in the Iowa City area. He was an avid reader and loved playing golf with his friends. He also piloted his own plane. After retirement, Dick and Gerry spent 13 winters in Mesa, AZ. before moving to Augusta to be near family.

Dick was an active member of the Iowa City Kiwanis and member of Whole Life Ministries for the past eleven years, serving as an usher and greeter at the Honey from the Rock Café up to his 92nd birthday. To his Whole Life church family, Dick is affectionately known as “Mr. Wonderful.”

He is survived by his three daughters, Carol (Eric) Urbaniec, Lemont, IL, Ruth Hesseltine, Iowa City, IA, and Jane (Mark) Jacobson, Martinez, GA, eight grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, and sister-in-law Faye Plummer of Westchester, IL. He was preceded in death by his beautiful wife Gerry, his parents, and brothers Bill and Jack Plummer.
