Martinez, GA- Mrs. Sara Elizabeth McMakin Hemphill, age 94, wife of the late
James W. Hemphill, Sr. died peacefully with her family at her bedside on
Sunday, August 3, 2008, at University Hospital.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, August 7, 2008, at 4:00 p.m. at
Marvin United Methodist Church with Rev. John Giglio officiating. Interment
will be held on Saturday, August 9, 2008, at 11:00 a.m. at Wood Memorial
Park in Duncan,SC.
Survivors include two sons, Jim Hemphill and his wife Jan of Evans and
Wilson Hemphill and his wife Debbie of Thomson. Six grandchildren: Woody
Hemphill, Ryan Hemphill, Anna Hanahan, Nick Hemphill, Elizabeth Hemphill,
and Catherine Branch. One great-grandson, Ross Hanahan.
Mrs. Hemphill was a Homemaker and a member of Marvin United Methodist
Church. She was a member of the Thelma Smalley Circle and the Mildred Walton
Bible Class. She loved playing the organ at the church, where she served as
church organist from 1969 to until her retirement at age 90 in 2003.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Marvin United Methodist
Church Building Fund @ 4400 Wheeler Rd., Martinez, GA 30907.
Pallbearers will be Woody Hemphill, Ryan Hemphill, Nick Hemphill, and Ross
Hanahan.
The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m.
at the Funeral Home.
Mrs. Hemphill will lie in state at the church from 3:00 until 4:00 p.m.
