Alvin Brewer Dickson

October 23, 1950 — December 8, 2022

Alvin Dickson Jr., 72, of Appling, GA, passed away on Thursday, December 8th, in the comfort of his home with his wife of 45 years, Karen Dickson.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM on Sunday, December 11, 2022 in the chapel of Platts Funeral Home on Crawford Avenue with the Rev. Dr. John Bryan officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Burial will be private.

Alvin was born in Augusta, GA to Alvin Dickson Sr. and Mary Rhoades Dickson in October of 1950. He is a graduate of the Academy of Richmond County and a graduate of Georgia Southern University.

He began his career at Milliken where he met his wife, and later moved back to Augusta to work at E-Z-Go Textron. In 1990, on his 40th birthday, he joined a team of 7 people to open the John Deere plant in Grovetown, GA.

Alvin loved to visit the Smoky Mountains every fall, but what he loved most was watching his daughters explore on summer vacations to Jekyll Island. The rental houses grew as the family did to include sons-in-law and grandchildren. Alvin surrendered his life to the Lord at an early age and served others quietly and without recognition. He enjoyed worshiping along with the choir and playing his trumpet in the church orchestra over the years. He was also an active member of the Gideons and Easter Seals.

Alvin is preceded in death by his parents, Alvin Dickson Sr., Mary R. Dickson-Frady, and stepfather, Rev. J. Yates Frady.

He is survived by his wife, Karen Mattox Dickson; two daughters, Annie (James) Martin, Angela Lee (Kenneth) Wilcox; grandchildren, Hunter Moody, Drew Moody, Brewer Martin, Eva Martin, James Wilcox, Hannah Wilcox, and Noah Wilcox; sister, Cindy (Joey) Vinson; two stepsisters, Nancy Huggins and Karen (Randy) Smith; three sisters-in-law, Becky (Vernon) Jones, Veta Turner, Charlene (Simmie) Slay; brother-in-law, Terry (Donnie Gail) Mattox; and many nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be his grandchildren.
