Barbara L. Newman

Martinez, GA – Mrs. Barbara L. Newman, 51, entered peacefully into rest on Thursday January 17, 2008 at Heartland Hospice.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Monday January 21, 2008 at Morningside Baptist Church with Rev. J.L. Vinson and Pastor Wesley McClaim officiating. Burial will follow at Westview Cemetery.

Barbara was a lifelong resident of Augusta and was a member of Morningside Baptist Church. She was employed at Babies R’ Us and loved being around children. Barbara was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She was also a beloved daughter, sister, aunt, and friend. Barbara will be remembered by everyone that she came in contact with because of her extraordinary sweet and selfless nature. “God saw her getting tired, a cure not meant to be, so He put his arms around her, and whispered “Come with me”.

Survivors include her loving husband of 30 years, Gus Newman of Martinez, two sons, Oliver Newman and Clayton Newman both of Martinez, three daughters, Bonnie McCallum and husband Toney of North Augusta, SC, Crystal Brown and husband Jim of Belle Chasse, LA, Amber Newman of Martinez, her mother, Peggy Ruth Norris of Augusta, her brother, George Miller Norris Jr. of Augusta, three sisters, Rosamond Bennett and husband Merle of Augusta, Mary Spires and husband Tommy of Augusta, Cassie Singleton and husband James of Augusta, four grandchildren, Chloé McCallum, Owen McCallum, Wesley Ball, and Jimmy Brown, mother and father-in-law Doris and Billy Dickens, and several brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, and uncles. Barbara was preceded in death by her father, the late George Miller Norris Sr.

The family would like to thank all of the MCG 5th floor doctors and nurses for the loving care that they gave Barbara.

The family will receive friends on Sunday January 20, 2008 at Platt’s Crawford Avenue from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM.
