Betty Ramona Mcalhany Dorminey

September 27, 1928 — February 11, 2022

Mrs. Betty Ramona McAlhany Dorminey, 93, of Evans, Georgia went to be with the Lord on Friday, February 11, 2022.
Mrs. Dorminey was born September 27, 1928 in Augusta, Georgia, the only child and beloved daughter of the late Harry Edward and Caroline Walker McAlhany. She was a proud descendant of the Revolutionary War Officer Daniel Walker, Sr.
She is survived by her son: David Clayton Dorminey and his companion Alison Moseley; daughter: Pamela Dorminey-Uros and her husband Nick; grandchildren: Essley Buren Burdine, III and his companion Arabella Navarro, and Mary Catherine Burdine Hurrion and her husband Dr. James R. Hurrion. In addition to her parents and her husband, Mr. Woodrow W. Dorminey, she is predeceased by her grandfather, the late James Edward McAlhany, whom she shared a close relationship.
Mrs. Dorminey was a graduate of the Tubman High School for Girls as well as the former Augusta College (Augusta University).
Mrs. Dorminey became a lifelong member of Mann Memorial United Methodist Church (Mann Mize UMC) in 1955. She was a devout Christian and a servant of Christ. She served her Church in many capacities including President of the United Methodist Women and Parliamentarian of the Augusta District United Methodist Women, Chair Pastor-Parish committee, Chair Board of Trustees, among other positions within the Church. As President of the United Methodist Women at Mann, she was passionate about missions and worked tirelessly to initiate the Fisher House, Haiti funds for disaster relief, as well as the Murphy-Harpst Children’s Center missions.
Mrs. Dorminey served as the Executive Liasion to the Commanding General at Ft. Gordon for 35 years, from old post headquarters to the current Signal Towers, where she hosted senior Army Generals, local, state, national and international leaders, and was the civilian assistant to President Dwight Eisenhower during his visits to the Augusta National Golf Club. During her tenure, she had the honor to work with ten Ft. Gordon commanding generals and was the recipient of the President’s Award for Distinguished Federal Civilian Service (the highest honor the Federal Government can grant a civilian employee). As former Ft. Gordon Commanding Major General Eugene Salet once wrote, “Mrs. Dorminey has raised a lot of Generals”.
Possibly more important than her many career accomplishments, Mrs. Dorminey was a loving Mother, mentor and positive role model for her children. She led by example, expected your best and always showed love and compassion. She was an avid reader, docent of World War II history, pianist, enthusiastic gardener, and bird watcher. Her love of classical music was a gift taught and shared with her children, at a very young age. This gift has translated to her grandchildren, as well.
She will be greatly missed by her children and many others whose lives she touched.
A visitation will be held Monday, February 14, 2022 from 3:30 pm to 5:30 pm at Platt’s Funeral Home located at 337 North Belair Road in Evans, Georgia.
Private Graveside Services will be conducted by Reverend Bernard Sonny Mason.
