Carol Lummus

June 19, 1941 — August 19, 2021

Carol Lummus, age 80, of Appling, entered into rest on August 19, 2021 due to complications of COVID that she contracted along with her mother, Sara. Sara and Carol, who passed away less than a week apart from each other, were each other's constant companions and had a sweet and loving relationship.

Carol was a strong woman, gracious matriarch to her large family - children, grand children and great grand children - and a successful business owner (Carol Electric Supply and A Cut Above Hair Design). Her success never interfered with her dedication to her faith and her family. Carol was married to her beloved high-school sweetheart Lamar for 43 years with whom she raised three daughters in. She and her husband Lamar loved their work with the church, their family and traveling together. Carol and Lamar purchased property in Appling (affectionately known as “the Compound”) so their family could all live close by, including Carol's mother “Grandma Sara.” Lamar passed away in 2004 and left an emptiness that was never filled and they are now walking the streets of Heaven, together again.

Carol’s home (including her basement and swimming pool) were open to family and friends alike. She hosted Sunday School parties, New Year’s Eve parties, Christian Women’s Club meetings with guest speakers for, birthday parties, and even XBox “tournaments”. Her home and her heart were open to everyone. Carol enjoyed collecting Barbie dolls, Hallmark movies and cheering for the Clemson Tigers. She was often found enjoying in a good book.

She was a true woman of faith and taught her family the importance and necessity of prayer. Carol was an active member of Abilene Baptist Church where her family would fill an entire pew on Sunday mornings. Carol’s legacy of strength and character will live on through her three daughters, her grandchildren, and her great grandchildren.

She is survived by daughters, Kelly Crocker (Kenneth), Mandy Slater (Gary), and Toni Tiedeman (Danny); and brothers, Daniel “Danny” Miller (Robbye) and Lee Cowan (Terri). She is also survived by those who knew her as “Grandmama,” “G-Mama,” and “G”- her grandchildren, Carol Ann Sharp (Garry), Gina Murray (J.C.), Casey Thompson (Nick), Rachel Cogley (John), Christopher Slater (Deborah), Brandi Slater, Ashton Tiedeman, and Cameron Tiedeman; and her 12 great grandchildren.
In addition to her husband Lamar, Carol was preceded in death by her father, Elmer Hayes Cowan; and her step-father, CDR Donald A. Miller, USN, Ret.
