Daniel Robert Drake

Dan Drake was born in Sitka, Alaska on November 17th, 1939, to Irene Bailey Drake and Ova Drake then raised in Anchorage. He spent time in Fairbanks where his parents had a gold mining operation. After high school, he worked in the Aleutian Islands on the White Alice Project, an Air Force communications system during the cold war. He moved to Hawaii and met and married Brenda Woody, living there for about 2 years before moving to the south and spent most of his life in Augusta, GA.
Dan had an Engineering degree from Augusta College. He initially worked at Fort Gordon, but most of his career was with IBM where he received special training to work on their mainframe computers at a nuclear power plant. He was drafted and served in the Army from 1962 – 1964 and was stationed in Huntsville, AL, working on the Nike Hercules Missiles, then served in the reserves until 1968. He met and married Sandra Drake in 2003 after his wife, of 36 years, Brenda, passed from cancer in 2002.
He enjoyed playing classical piano. He also enjoyed building and flying model airplanes, building bird houses and wall clocks, and so many other projects. Over the course of his life, he had a passion for travel and went to 50 different countries and 6 different continents. He was an upstanding member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Martinez Chapter 464, and served as treasurer for 12 years; he was also a faithful member of Martinez Masonic Lodge No. 710 and served as their treasurer for 30 years.
Daniel Robert Drake passed away at age 82 on February 22, 2022, at his home.
Dan was a wonderful and faithful friend, father and husband, and was beloved by all who knew him.
Dan Drake is survived by his wife, Sandy Drake, daughters, Beverly Drake Bauer and Susan Drake, stepdaughter, Julie Dorris, one grandson, 3 granddaughters, and one great-granddaughter.
