Elmira Roper Lee of Martinez died December 3, 2008. She was 93.
A celebration of her life will be held at Platt's Belair Road Chapel on Friday, December 5, 2008 at 4:30 p.m. Burial will be private at Bellevue Memorial Gardens.
Elmira is the widow of Mark H. Roper and Herbert M. Lee. Survivors include her two sons, J. David Roper and his wife, Edna, of Martinez, and Mark H. Roper, Jr., and his wife, Jean, of Evans, her grandson, Adam R. Roper and his wife, Tomoko, of Bradenton, Florida, her granddaughter, Kimberly E. Roper, of Evans, her great-granddaughter, Sarah Margaret Roper, of Bradenton, her brother, L.B. Anderson, of Grovetown, and her friend and care giver, Kay Dozier.
Elmira was the daughter of Maggie and Bailey Anderson. She was born and reared on the family's dairy farm in Columbia County and was a graduate of Harlem High School where she played basketball. After high school, she worked for several Columbia County agencies and the Gulf Atlantic Cotton Warehouse where she met and married Mark H. Roper. She owned and operated Roper's Variety Store for several years. She retired from the U.S. Army Hospital at Fort Gordon where she served as the hospital’s treasurer.
A devoted and loving wife and mother, Elmira was known for her cheerful outgoing personality. She was a member of Warren Baptist Church where she served as secretary of the Naomi-Ruth Sunday School class for many years.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday evening following the funeral service until 6:30 p.m.
