Erik Mitchell VanTassel, 53, of Augusta, GA., passed away on February 9, 2025 from complications due to medical conditions with his family by his side.
Erik was funny, quick witted, kind hearted, and a person who appreciated the simple things in life. He enjoyed a good bowl of cereal, Saturday morning cartoons, a pet to love and was never known to turn away a Whopper with cheese and extra pickles. Another absolute favorite of his was watching movies, good movies as well as the bad ones. However, the DC and Marvel franchise were some of his favorites. As a little boy, he and his brother would wrap towels around their necks, run through the house and pretend to be Bat Man and Robin.
Erik was also a deeply devoted musician and audiophile to his core, having created and played music through-out much of his life. He began his music career at an early age with drums made of pots and pans. Nothing made him happier than playing guitar, writing music, or thumbing through tapes and albums, always searching for something new for his ears. He was an inspiration and wealth of musical knowledge to those who knew him well, the musical outcasts, that were searching for something new and not of the norm.
But mostly he was deeply devoted to his family, close friends, and his pets. He was preceded in death by both parents Jon and Ann Van Tassel, both of Batavia, New York. Erik the middle child leaves behind an older sister Lisa (Steve)Wallace of Denton, MD and a younger brother Jason (April)Van Tassel of Augusta GA. He’s also survived by long time childhood friend Wayne Marshal. Additionally, survived by two Uncles: Jan Van Tassel and Bob Frongetta, one Aunt: Lisa Van Tassel and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Erik will truly be missed
