Gene "Poppie" Hair

Edward “Gene” Eugene Hair, 75, of Grovetown, GA passed away on May 7, 2022.

Gene was a devoted native of Columbia County, born to James and Bessie Hair on February 25, 1947. He attended Evans School. He built his life with Linda “Tat” Perkins until her passing in 2015.

Known by many as “Coach Hair”, he was a teacher and coach for 31 years and 22 summer schools at Bel Air School and Evans High! He was passionate about Vocational Education and was proud to be on the advisory committee for Vocational Education at Evans High School. He also served on the Soil & Water committee for Columbia county.

Gene was a family man. He proudly used the title of “Poppie”. He loved his family, people and God. He was a lifetime member of Lewis Memorial United Methodist Church. He enjoyed spending his days hunting, fishing and collecting stuff.

Gene is survived by his son, Jon (Whitney) Hair; daughters, Janet (Joey) Bruyninckx and Gena (Wesley) Taylor; grandchildren, Hannah (Trever) Sourdiff, Tanner (Carly) Bruyninckx, Trent Bruyninckx, Hunter Taylor, Anslee Hair, Tucker Bruyninckx, Ayden Hair and Owen Hair; soon-to-be great-grandson, Wyatt Sourdiff and sister, Jeanette (Wade) Walden. He is predeceased by his parents and his wife.

Pallbearers will be Tanner Bruyninckx, Trent Bruyninckx, Tucker Bruyninckx, Ayden Hair, Owen Hair, Hunter Taylor and Trever Sourdiff.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in Gene’s honor may be given to Lewis Memorial United Methodist Church https://onrealm.org/LewisMemorialUMC/-/form/give/now.

Visitation will be from 5-9pm on Tuesday, May 10, 2022 at Platt’s Funeral Home 337 N. Bel Air Rd. Evans, GA 30809.

Funeral services will be held at 2pm on Wednesday, May 11, 2022 at Lewis Memorial UMC 5555 Hereford Farm Road, Evans, GA 30809 with Pastor Eddie Bradford officiating. Burial will follow at Lewis Memorial UMC Cemetery. Arrangements are by Platt’s Funeral Home.
