And this is the testimony: God has given us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life. I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God so that you may know that you have eternal life. (1 John 5:11-13)
“God, give me patience,” he prayed softly with slight smile the day before he went to be with Jesus. Not patience in dealing with anyone else, but he prayed for patience in his pain.
The first thing the Bible says about love is that it is patient. (1 Cor. 13:4)
Before anything he would want you to know about his life, he would want you to know about his love for Jesus and how he lived his life based on this love. His love for his Savior created an unwavering love which flowed into every other area of his life.
To Elon, his sweetheart of 70 years, he exhibited the love of Christ through loyalty and humility as a husband, provider, and protector.
To his children Bob (Debbie), Keith, (Laurie) and Steve (Stuart), he exhibited the love of Christ through sacrifice as a father, a confidant, and a leader.
To his grandchildren Rebecca, Sarah (Jared), Tamara (Luiz), Caleb (Emily), Tyler (Natalie), Hannah, Jonathan, and Patrick he exhibited the love of Christ through his love of God’s creation in nature trails, fishing adventures, and gardening.
To his great grandchildren, Charlotte, Mollie, Ramona, Noah, Theodore, Rio, and Avery, he exhibited the love of Christ by letting the little children come to him. No matter how he felt, he was known to them as “Happy”.
He did live a wonderful life, but his life was rooted in his love for the Lord above all.
On the day he died, his wife said “I hope he is okay,” and one of his grandchildren confidently replied, “he is perfect,” and he is.
The Bible says “come to Me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest”. (Matthew 11:28)
God gave him the patience he prayed for in those last few hours on this earth, and while his earthy life has ended, his eternal life has just begun. He has indeed been made perfect, and just like the Jesus he strived to exemplify on this earth, he is now at rest with Him for eternity.
