Martinez, GA – Ilda Cecile Lindley Hunter, “Lynn”, beloved wife of Dr. Samuel Joseph Hunter, died on Tuesday, December 3, 2024. A memorial service will be held at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 605 Reynolds Street, Augusta, Georgia, with The Rev. Dr. Eric Biddy officiating, on Thursday, December 5, 2024, at 2PM in the Chapel.
Born on December 15, 1932, in Derby, Connecticut, she was the daughter of Floyd and Mary Lindley. She graduated from Hillhouse High School, New Haven, Connecticut, in 1950, and received the Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing from the University of Connecticut, Storrs, Connecticut, in 1955. She lived in New England for nearly 50 years before relocating from Amherst, Massachusetts, to Augusta, in 1992. During her 30 years in Amherst, she assisted her husband in his private medical practice, and raised their five children. She is preceded in death by her parents Floyd and Mary Lindley, her half brother Charles Lindley, and sister Carolyn Lindley Miller. She was an avid reader, enjoyed travel and photography, entertaining friends, was an accomplished chef and loved music. Some of the most beautiful music was provided by her husband and children. She greatly enjoyed her membership in The Town and Country Garden Club of Augusta. She was a member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, Augusta, Georgia.
In addition to her husband of (70 years on December 18, 2024) she is survived by her five children: Christopher Lindley Hunter, (Maja), of Maisons-Laffitte, France, and Evans, Georgia; Dr. Timothy John Hunter, (Stephanie), of Evans, Georgia; Matthew Thomas Hunter, (Nanami), of Berlin, Germany; Alice Hunter Vasquez, (Robert), of Everett, Washington; and, Diana Lynn Hunter, (Janine), of Healdsburg, California; her five granddaughters, Melodie Anne Winter, Durham, North Carolina; Lila Irena Hunter, Maisons-Laffitte, France; Emily Marguerite Hunter, York, UK; Julia Lindley Hunter, Hanover, Germany; and Isabel Marie Hunter, Weimar, Germany; four grandsons, Benjamin Christopher Hunter, Calgary Canada; Jacob Christopher Hunter, Maisons-Laffitte, France; James Steven Hunter, Durham, North Carolina; and Nicholas Samuel Hunter, Palo Alto, California; five great grandchildren; a niece, Debra Dearing of Fresno, California; and nephew Keith Russell of McKinney, Texas. Memorials may be made to St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 605 Reynolds Street, Augusta, Georgia, 30901.
