James William “Bill” Poppler
Augusta, GA – Bill was born in Dunedin, Florida August 15, 1933 to Howard and Treutlen Bailey Poppler. He died on September 13 after a difficult health battle since March. His brothers, Meredith and Orville, and his sister Mary have all passed away.
Mr. Poppler attended the Dunedin primary schools and having developed a nice tenor voice and strong musical interest went to Florida State and graduated with a music degree. The Army called and Bill was stationed at Fort Gordon. Upon discharge he remained in Augusta and became organist and choirmaster for First Presbyterian Church where he remained for 35 years. In addition, he enjoyed being Music teacher at Forest Hills and Langford schools. Bill was active with Augusta Choral Society, the Players, and Augusta Opera.
In the last 25 years he has been a partner and office manager at Kenneth Houck Interiors and has cherished his membership and fellowship in Christ Church Presbyterian on Southern Pines Drive in Evans as it was formed and has flourished.
Bill’s friends are invited to attend his graveside memorial service at 3:00 PM on Monday, September 17, 2012 in Westover Memorial Park with Rev. Josiah Jones officiating.
