Jane Hinton Presley passed away on May 10, 2022 at her home in Brandon Wilde.
Mrs. Presley was born on May 22, 1927 in Tate, Georgia, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Lamar Hinton. She received her early education in Pickens County schools, graduated from North Georgia College in 1946 and the University of Georgia with a Bachelor of Science in Home Economics degree in 1948. It was in Athens where she met a handsome young student, Charles Bowman Presley, to whom she married in 1949. After teaching school in Acworth, Ellijay and Washington, she and her husband settled in Augusta in 1953.
Mrs. Presley quickly became involved in her new community by volunteering with numerous organizations. She was also an active member of St. John United Methodist Church and the Augusta Country Club. Among her many joys were vegetable gardening, cheering on the Georgia Bulldogs, traveling near and far, playing golf, tennis and bridge. She will be lovingly remembered by her family and friends for her keen sense of humor, an adventurous spirit, a helping hand and an inquisitive nature.
Mrs. Presley is survived by her children, Susan Presley Norton (Barry Lee Norton) and Nancy Presley Buckhannan (William Henry Buchannan, IV); her grandchildren, Barry Lee Norton, junior and Dana Norton Smallwood (Robert Scott Hunter Smallwood); and two great-grandchildren, Robert Hunter Smallwood and Elizabeth Presley Smallwood. She is preceded in death by her parents, William Lamar Hinton and Ailean Knox Hinton; her brother, William Knox Hinton and her husband of 52 years, Charles Bowman Presley.
The family sincerely appreciates the dedication and kindness offered by Janice Seymore, Arlen Chandler, Maria George, Tanesha Williams and the many staff members at Brandon Wilde. We will forever remember the attention and love shown to her.
A memorial service will be held at St. John United Methodist Church on May 14, 2022 at 11am. The family will receive friends following the service. Burial will be a private ceremony.
