Jene Alfredo “Fredo” Batiste, 53, beloved husband of Anja, passed away Nov 25th 2020. He was born on Feb 1st, 1967 in Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands, to Donna Maria Robinson.
He attended Lockhart Elementary School grades 1-6, Seventh-Day Adventist School grades 7-10, and completed his primary education at Eudora Kean High School in 1986.
He enlisted in the US Army in July 1987. After basic training he was assigned to Germany where he met his future wife in May 1988. They got married in December 1989 and had two daughters. During his 21 years of service until retirement in 2008 he was deployed many times, to include the Gulf War, several missions in the Middle East, and the Kosovo conflict. In 2004 he and his family moved to Evans GA, and Ft. Gordon became his last duty station. After his retirement as Sergeant First Class from active duty, he pursued higher education, received his bachelor’s degree and his master’s degree which will posthumously be awarded in December 2020. He worked as a contractor for EPS, Lockheed Martin, and Leidos as IT Cyber Security Specialist.
He is survived by his wife Anja Batiste, his daughters Trisha and Charlene, granddaughters Kailyn, Ehlena, and Nyla; as well as Rolinda McCarthy which whom he had shared their son Esmond, and granddaughters Gabriella and Jayda; his mother Donna M. Smith, his brother Gerald L. Phipps III, his wife Gerraina, their children Shaliya, Akkeem, Kalima, Malik, and Jaquin. His sister Denise Petersen, her children Dekurmar, Damali, Daminah, and DeShantia, his sister Ronna Wade with husband Rudolph and children, his sister Roxanne Smith, Leando McFarlane, and children, his sister Rolinda Smith with children, and many cousins, aunts, uncles.
He was a devoted Seventh-Day Adventist, and he loved his wife, children and grandchildren unconditionally. He loved traveling, enjoyed working on cars, his yard, loved music, especially Reggae and old school R&B, playing on his PS4, karaoke with his big brother, and he appreciated a good game night with friends.
Jene’s wife and daughters are forever grateful to all the nurses and physicians at Eisenhower Army Medical Center for the tireless effort and care during his illness, as well as the Neuro ICU staff at Augusta Health University during his last days, and all the heartfelt thoughts and prayers in these difficult times from colleagues and friends. In addition, a special thanks to Associate Pastor Kurt Osena from the Augusta First Seventh-Day Adventist church for his service, care, and kind words.
There will be a Celebration of Life held, sometime in the spring of 2021. Date and time will be shared at a later time.
