Kawanis Bernard Collier, affectionately known as "KC," passed away at his home in Evans Georgia, on September 3, 2024, surrounded by the love of his devoted family. Born on February 23, 1941, in Harlan, Kentucky, KC led a life filled with service, love, and dedication to those around him.
A proud veteran, KC served honorably in the United States Army for 20 years and 5 days, achieving the rank of Sergeant First Class (E7). His military career was distinguished by numerous awards, including the Good Conduct Medal (6th Award), National Defense Service Medal, Expert Field Medical Badge, Combat Medical Badge, and several Vietnam service medals. His commitment to serving his country was matched only by his deep dedication to his family and community.
KC obtained a nursing degree that further exemplified his dedication to caring for others. He was particularly proud of being a member of the Bible Distribution Team in his local Gideon Chapter, where he honored his faith by ensuring that he "put Bibles in the hands of those in need".
Christmas was KC's favorite time of the year, a season he cherished for bringing family and friends together. He loved to create memories through fishing and golfing, activities that highlighted his adventurous spirit and passion for life. KC’s personality was marked by a profound love for family, God, and country—values he instilled in those fortunate enough to know him.
KC leaves behind a loving family, including his wife, Betty Ann Collier; son Jimmy Collier and daughter-in-law Gina Collier; grandchildren Nicole (Chase) Manley, Jake Collier, Jessica Collier, and Zack Collier; and great-granddaughter Emma Manley. He is also survived by his sister, Mary "Mickey" Childers. Preceding him in death were his mother, Edith Fay Parton Collier; daughter, Kimberly Ann Collier; and brothers Jerry Wayne Collier and Hargis Tommy Collier.
His legacy will be celebrated with a visitation on Friday, September 6, 2024, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Platt's Funeral Home in Evans, Georgia. A funeral service will follow on Saturday, September 7, 2024, at 11:00 AM at Trinity Baptist Church in Martinez, Georgia. Following the service, a graveside ceremony will take place at Bellevue Memorial Gardens in Grovetown, Georgia with Full United States Army Military Honors.
Kawanis Bernard Collier will be remembered not just for his military service or community involvement, but for his unwavering love for his family and the profound impact he had on the lives of those who knew him.
