Leon Larke

Augusta, GA – Mr. Leon Larke, 61, devoted husband and best friend to his wife of 32 years, Barbara Rosier Larke, entered into rest on Monday, July 6, 2015 at Select Specialty Hospital.

The funeral will be held on Wednesday July 15, 2015 at First Presbyterian Church on Telfair Street at 11:00 AM. The family will assemble at Platt’s Funeral Home, Crawford Ave., and process to the church at 10:30 AM. The Rev. George W. Robertson and Rev. John Barrett will officiate. Burial will follow at Westover Memorial Park. After interment, a repast will be held at the Enterprise Mill Event Center on 15th & Greene Street.

Mr. Larke, a native of Augusta, GA, was born February 23, 1954. He graduated from Lucy C. Laney High School. Mr. Larke, a legal general practitioner for 35 years, has handled criminal and personal injury cases. He graduated cum laude in 1976 from Mercer University, Macon, GA, and is a 1979 graduate of Antioch University School of Law, Washington, D.C. , where he received his juris doctorate degree.

Augusta attorney Leon Larke was appointed by Georgia’s Attorney General Mike Bowers as a Special
Assistant Attorney General to represent the Georgia Department of Human Resources for the Richmond County Office of Child Support Recovery. He also was an advisory board member of Paine College for over 30 years and served as President for three terms. He was a man of God who lived his life full of joy and purpose. He was a poet and a writer.

In addition to his wife Barbara, survivors include; two brothers, Herman (Sandra Lene) Larke and Cleveland (Raedine) Larke; four sisters, Willa (Christopher) Taylor, Mattie (Calvin) Garnett, Sarah (Solomon) Darby and Margaret Fobbs; his special niece Christine Beard; and his special devoted nephew James Bernard Thomas.

Pallbearers will be Dr. Joshua Stephenson, Mr. Andrew Mize, Hon. Bob Young, Dr. Virgil C. McKie, Mr. Jack Batson, and Dr. Charles Larke. Honorary Pallbearers will be the members of the Augusta Bar Association.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday evening, July 14, 2015 from 5:00 to 7:00 PM.
