Linda Jolly McIntosh passed away on Wednesday, October 16, 2024.
Born on July 26, 1944, Linda grew up in Snake Swamp, South Carolina, along the Edisto River. She spent much of her early childhood with her grandmother, whom she idolized. Linda’s father, Fillmore Jolly, was an entrepreneur and is known for his restaurant, the Amber House, in North Augusta. Linda’s mother, Edna, and her twin sister, Eddie, owned Jolly’s, a popular restaurant in Augusta. This is where Linda learned her love of cooking.
Linda followed in her father’s footsteps with an entrepreneurial spirit. She was an interior decorator, antique dealer and collector, as well as a talented artist. Linda was most happy when her hands were in paint or dirt. Plants, indoors and outdoors, responded to her gentle touch.
Linda was an old soul and early on developed a fighting spirit. Anyone who knew Linda heard about her protests on behalf of women’s rights and her strong advocacy for civil rights. In her own quiet way, Linda was an inspiration to all who knew her. She was, and is, a tough act to follow.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Richard Fillmore Jolly and Edna Kittrell Jolly and her aunts, Eddie and Mamie. She is survived by her loving partner, Helen Hendee, her sister, Mary Hite, and her children and grandchildren and Linda’s special Hendee family, sisters Jean Hendee Umansky and Beth Hendee Ingram, brother-in-law, Warren Umansky, and nephews and nieces, Derrick and Caitlyn, Aaron, Neely and Elle.
