Martha Banick Shumacker

Martha Banick Shumacker died peacefully on December 5, 2021 after a battle with cancer.

Born on November 5, 1958 in Augusta, Georgia, she is survived by her mother, Nancy Barrett Banick; husband, James Nathaniel Shumacker; brother, Cyril Joseph Banick, Jr.; son, William Barrett Wright; stepchildren, Allison Wright Hixon (Travis), Gretchen Shumacker McGill and Nathaniel David Shumacker; nephew, Benjamin Lawson Banick and niece, Mary Katherine Banick. She was preceded in death by her father, Cyril Joseph Banick and brother, James Henley Banick (Karen).

After graduating from Augusta University with a bachelor’s in fine arts, she taught at Warren Road Elementary School, where she was blessed to work with a wonderful staff and children.

Throughout her life, Martha held leadership positions in many philanthropic organizations. She especially enjoyed her participation in the National Society of The Colonial Dames of America.

Martha was grateful to have good family and friends, who were a comfort and happy diversion during her illness.
