Mary Elizabeth Wheatley Brown

Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Wheatley Brown, 83, beloved wife of 63 years to Thomas “Tony” N. Brown III, dies peacefully at her home on Friday evening, May 5, 2023.

Funeral services will be held at on Wednesday, May 10, 2023, at 11:00 AM in the Belair Road Chapel of Platts Funeral Home. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at Bellevue Memorial Gardens.

Mary was a graduate of Evans High School and attended Augusta College. She was a bookkeeper for Marks Oxygen Company in Augusta until devoting her time to be a homemaker and mother. She served faithfully in the Women of Georgia Power organization and participated in activities to support Lynndale School and Training Center. She enjoyed traveling with her husband and daughter, ultimately visiting 48 states and Canada. A longtime member of Warren Baptist Church and the Fidelis Sunday school class, Mary hosted a weekly bible study for women in her home for more than 18 years.

In addition to her husband, Thomas N. Brown III, she is survived by her sons, Thomas Wade Brown and Michael Jay Brown (Beverly), two grandchildren, Emily Joy Brown and Timothy Michael Brown, a brother, Douglas Wheatley (Brenda), a sister, Shirley Butler and her sister-in-law, Betty Kastner.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Brantley Wheatley and Lizzie Mae Wheeless Wheatley, her daughter, Nancy Ann Brown, her six brothers, Milton, John, George, Talmadge, Lenward and Herman Wheatley and her sisters, Lucy Jane Wheatley, Juanita W. Bradford and Jeannette Frey.
