Mary Usry Sheppard

Grovetown, GA – Mary Usry Sheppard, beloved wife of the late J. Rufus Sheppard, entered into rest on Saturday, April 26, 2014.

Graveside services will be held at 3:00 PM on Tuesday, April 29, 2014 at Hillcrest Memorial Park with Pastor Larry Harmon officiating.

Mary was born in Jefferson County, GA and was the last of six children. She loved the Lord and loved her family and always put the needs and care of her family ahead of herself. Mary enjoyed baking her pound cakes and lemon meringue pies for her family and friends. She worked at Lily Tulip Cup Corp. for many years. After quitting to stay home with her children, she returned to the work in the school system in the lunch room. Mary also worked for Castleberry Food for many years. She served the Lord in her younger life at Bayvale Baptist Church where she served as Church hostess and flower chair lady for many years, always seeing that fresh flowers were placed in the sanctuary for Sunday and then would deliver them to shut-ins. She also enjoyed preparing meals for the pastors and having them in her home. Mary was a member of West Acres Baptist Church and in her later years attended Oak Grove Baptist Church and Grove Baptist Church. Mary loved her Lord, church life, and instilled in Jimmie and Jack to attend church and serve God.

Survivors include her loving children; daughter-Jimmie Ruth Garrett (Calvin), Son-Jack Sheppard (Susan), grandsons; Michael Garrett (Nancy), Steven Garrett (Dana), Billy Sheppard (Elaine), Tommy Sheppard (Teresa), Chris Murphey, Corey Smith, 15 great grandchildren, sister in law; Sally Usry, special niece; Mary Blackburn and many other nieces and nephews along with her extended Garrett family. In addition to her husband, Mary was preceded in death by her parents; Elmo and Pearl Dye Usry and her beloved granddaughter; Amy Murphey.

The family will receive friends on Monday, April 28, 2014 from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at the funeral home.
