Melania Young

January 6, 1939 — January 14, 2023

Mrs. Melania Young, beloved wife of the late Donald Young, peacefully entered into rest with family by her side, on Saturday, January 14, 2023.

Mrs. Young (Mely) was a native of the Philippines. She was a great mom to her 5 kids. Each learned lessons from her that they’ll carry through for the rest of their lives. Mely could make people laugh without even trying. Being a military wife, she made lifelong friends. Living on Ft. Gordon, the scent of her cooking would linger in the air throughout the neighborhood. Mely loved to feed everyone, she made sure nobody left hungry. She was a great cook, famous for her lumpia, (strong)Rum cakes and chocolate chip cookies. She loved to garden and enjoyed trips with her husband to the casinos, they always seemed to make donations to the casinos they visited. She attended St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Church.

One thing is certain about Mely, she loved her cats, she loved all 4-legged animals and birds. Definitely not a fan of snakes or insects. There have been numerous times that she has nurtured an abandoned or sickly animal back to health. She had the gift of compassion and hands that would heal. She always put those around her, pets included, above her own needs. This was one of the selfless parts of Mely that everyone fell in love with.

Mely and Don couldn’t wait for grandchildren. They loved on them and spoiled them all so very much

She is survived by her sister Pastora, her children; Steve Young (Kim Taylor), James Young (Donna), Tony Young, John Young (Kimberly) and Joann Young Tuchscherer (John), her grandchildren; Sean Young, Atom Young, Cari Luniewski, Taylor Johnson and Lacy Nielson, her great grandchildren; Caden, Conner, Chase, McKenna, Luna and Amelia, as well as a special family friend, Terrence Richards.

We are so grateful for the nurses and doctors at Doctor’s Hospital and especially all the care givers that compassionately cared for her through ProMedica Hospice.

The family will receive friends on Thursday evening at the funeral home from 4:00 until 7:00 PM. Funeral services will be held at 12:00 noon on Friday, January 20, 2023 at Platts Funeral Home Belair Road Chapel. Burial will follow at Westover Memorial Park.
