Melvin David Spence

Melvin David Spence, entered into rest on May 1, 2021 at his residence, surrounded by his family.

A memorial service will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, July 24, 2021 at Platt’s Funeral Home, Belair Road Chapel with the Rev. Ricky Knox officiating. The family will receive friends for two hours prior to the service.

Melvin was born in Brunswick, Georgia in 1975, but he had been a resident of the Augusta area for 40 years. He was a member of Sherwood Baptist Church and an OTR trucker, who really enjoyed his work. Melvin will be remembered as very giving and loving man. He took care of the people he loved, and if someone were in need, he would give them the shirt off his back. He was a true friend and confidant. He faced his battle with cancer with a courageous and brave spirit, with his main concern being for his family and close friends.

Survivors include his mother, Margie Spence, his brother, Jed David Spence III, a nephew, Donovan Gatlin and a niece, Margie Pittman. He was preceded in death by his father, Jed David Spence, and his sister, Sherri Lee Pittman.
