Rachel L. Robertson

March 26, 1928 — March 22, 2023

Rachel Louise Norris Robertson, 94, went to be with our Heavenly Father as she was surrounded by family on March 22, 2023.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, March 25, 2023, at the First Baptist Church of Evans with the Rev. Bob Rayner, Rev. Stephen Rayner, and Rev. Philip Hedgecoth officiating. Burial will follow at Westover Memorial Park. The family will receive friends on Friday evening at the funeral home from 6:00 until 8:00 PM.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Vincent Robertson, of 60 years as well as the following: Ann Gentry (daughter), Brenleigh Kitchens (granddaughter), Porter Anderson (grandson), Levi Anderson (grandson), Willie Norris (father), Carrie Norris (mother), J.D. Norris (brother), Dub Norris (brother), Jack Norris (brother), Benjamin Norris (brother), Omega Jones (sister), and Betty Jo Putnam (sister).

At age 16, she found the love of her life as she served as a candy striper in 1944 at the Oliver General Hospital (old VA hospital). Her romance began when Vincent was a patient in a full body cast, and she would fan his face to provide cool air. She loved to tell that the more she fanned, the more beautiful his brown eyes became, and the rest was history.

Their marriage began as an active military family until Vincent was honorably discharged due to his physical disability. Afterwards, they planted roots on the same ground that she grew up and eventually started the family business, Robertson Electric Company, where she served as secretary.

She was a world traveler and philanthropist. She loved her community and gave back by serving as a member and officer of several community clubs as well as a longtime volunteer at Doctors Hospital. Her love for 4-H was evident by her years of service and her family was named Family of the Year in 1985.

She was a strong-minded businesswoman and entrepreneur, opening her home décor and collectibles store, Strictly Country, for more than 25 years. Flowers were her passion and she always ensured that her yard and flower beds were manicured.

She was a longtime member of First Baptist Church of Evans. Her family was her heart, and she adored her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren.

She is survived by the following children: Brenda Woodruff (Billy), Robbie Robertson (Arlain), Donna Anderson (Lee), Bob Robertson (Janie). Her grandchildren include Glenn Gentry, Jr. (Maria), Cassie Corbin (Keith), Loren Kitchens (Karl), Vince Robertson III (Amber), Alayna Edwards (Daniel), Ben Anderson, Katie McLemore (Cory), Fallon Zapata, Robert Robertson (Morgan) as well as 17 great and great-great grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank long time caregiver, Jackie Hunter, for the care and love provided through the years. Also, a special thank you to the care provided by Regency Hospice (Alayna, Madison, Nerisha) and Wendy’s Senior Services (Jessica, Brittany, Tiffany, Bea, Shanta, Emily, Marie, Lisa).

Pallbearers will be Glenn Gentry, Jr., Vince Robertson III, Robert Robertson, Benjamin Anderson, Daniel Edwards, and Cory McLemore.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the following: Warren Baptist Church, 3203 Washington Rd, Augusta, GA 30907, or Abilene Baptist Church, 3917 Washington Rd, Martinez, GA 30907, or Parkway Baptist Church, 2543 William Few Pkwy., Evans, Ga 30809.
