Rene' Godbee Smith

Rene’ Godbee Smith, 81, of Augusta, Ga. passed away on January 18th, 2025 at St. Rita’s Hospital in Lima, OH where she recently resided.

 Rene’ was born on Thanksgiving Day, November 25th, 1943, to Virginia and George Godbee. Born into an Army family Rene’ and her brother Eddie grew up in various parts of the world.

 After graduating from Tift Women’s College in Forsyth, Ga. Rene’ became a teacher. Her specialties were French and English, which she taught to thousands of students across the CSRA. Rene’ helped many people improve their lives through GED and college preparation classes. Her work also benefitted at risk students at the Richmond County Alternative School.

 Rene’ loved God, her family, her hometown Augusta and her faithful buddy Annie, her dog.

Rene’ was preceded in death by her parents George and Virginia Godbee, her brother George Godbee Jr. (Eddie) and her husband William Donehoo.

 Rene’ is survived by her son Roy (Karen) Smith, her niece Brandi Godbee, nephews George Godbee III and Jonathan Godbee and extended family.

 The family would like to thank the staff and caregivers at Burtons Ridge Assisted Living in Lima, OH for enriching Rene’s life. Words can not express our gratitude to the caregivers and clergy at St. Rita’s Hospital for their care, compassion and support during the end of Rene’s life here.

 A funeral service will be held at First Presbyterian Church in Augusta on Friday, January 31, 2025 at 2:00 PM followed by burial in Westover Memorial Park.
