Reuben Douglas ‘Doug’ Carver Jr., 85, passed away peacefully on September 9, 2024, in Hepzibah, Georgia. Doug was the quintessential example of hard work and dedication, both in his profession and as a father to his four children, Reuben (Doug), Timothy (Tim), Sherrill (Sherry) and Kerry. His work ethic was unparalleled, often working long hours to ensure the comfort and security of his family, whom he loved deeply. His greatest achievement was his family, for whom he always did his best and of whom he was immensely proud.

Doug was born in Chatsworth, GA on April 4, 1939 to his parents, Reuben Douglas Carver, Sr. and Edna Irene Carver. He attended the following schools - Houghton Elementary, Tubman Junior High, the Academy of Richmond County in 1960, Georgia Tech and finishing up his education at the University of Georgia, graduating in 1962 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration.

He enjoyed spending time with members of his local union, and the Eastend Bunch, he often visited Atlanta to participate in their monthly meetings. He was a longtime resident of Augusta, having moved there in 1950 with his family.

Doug was fascinated with space. Many days he would have the NASA channel playing in the background as he spent time at home (after retirement of course). He traveled to Titusville and Cape Canaveral, FL many times to watch the Apollo space launches in the 1970's. He was a member of the Citizens Band (CB) Radio Club in the 70’s as well. He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandkids. You could find him often sitting and relaxing on his mother's porch in downtown Augusta on Walker Street or at his son's house in Hepzibah. He also enjoyed watching his "boys" as he would call them, the Georgia Bulldogs.

Doug was preceded in death by his grandparents, Harvey and Maggie Quarles and Mont and Pearl Carver, his father, Reuben Douglas Carver, Sr., his mother, Edna Irene Carver, his brother, Harvey "Randy" Carver and his son’s Reuben Douglas Carver III and Kerry Edward Carver.
