Augusta, GA – Rex Whitaker, 86, beloved husband of Dorothy Whitaker, entered into rest on Wednesday, October 17, 2012.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00AM on Friday, October 19, 2012 at Platt’s Funeral Home Belair Road Chapel with Reverend Andy Collins officiating. Burial will follow at Westover Memorial Park with full military honors.
Rex served in the Army as an aircraft mechanic. He spent 8 years in the 82nd Airborne Division. He served in Korea and 2 tours in Germany and several state side bases. He retired after 21 years of military service.
Survived by his wife of 65 years, additional survivors include three daughters ; Linda Smith and husband Steve of Lawrenceville, GA, Diane Gregory and husband Dewey of North Augusta, SC. , Becky Whitaker of Lawrenceville, GA. ; three grandsons, Daryl Ford, Derek Ford, Jason Smith; one granddaughter, Stephanie Smith Mullis and one great granddaughter, Sybel Mullis.
He was an outdoors person and enjoyed fishing, hiking and many years of traveling and camping in his RV. He was a member of Good Sam Club for 35 years and charter member of local Chapter 44.
Rex dearly loved his family and was loved in return by family and friends.

The family will receive friends from 6:00PM until 8:00PM on Thursday, October 18, 2012 at the funeral home.
