Stella Grandin, 81, entered into rest on January 27, 2025, in Evans, Georgia. Born on May 2, 1943, in Augusta, Georgia, and spent some time away before returning to the community that had always been home. A woman of intelligence, grace, and strength, Stella moved through life with purpose and generosity, leaving an enduring mark on the hearts of those who knew her – and those who will come to know her legacy in the future.
A graduate of Richmond Academy, Augusta, Georgia, she remained deeply connected to her classmates throughout the years, valuing the friendships and shared history they held. Stella continued her education at Emory University, Atlanta, Georgia, earning a degree in Business Administration – a reflection of both her sharp mind and her ambition. Her career and philanthropy were guided by a steady head and a giving heart, always seeking ways to uplift others.
Stella found joy in life’s simple beauties, none more so than in her garden, where she grew many flowers, but loved daylilies the most. She carried that same nurturing spirit into her community, dedicating her time and resources to causes close to her heart. She was a member of the group Women in Philanthropy, where more than 200 women in the CSRA come together to tackle the needs of women and children, right in their hometowns. Her devotion to service was most profoundly reflected in her role in funding the creation of Windsor House at Brandon Wilde, Evans, Georgia, a facility for seniors needing individualized memory care. The mission of the Windsor House is to provide a safe and relaxing environment for seniors needing memory care, while retaining comfort, dignity, and the fun of everyday life.
In later years, Stella made her home at Brandon Wilde, where she continued to embrace life with poise and resilience. She cherished her family and friends, surrounding herself with love and laughter until her final days.
Stella Grandin is survived by her son, David Grandin (Andrew Shoemaker) of Blacksburg, Virginia. She is preceded in passing by her spouse, Glenn Grandin, and her parents, Alexander Windsor and Ruth Windsor.
A celebration of Stella’s life will be held at Platt’s Funeral Home, 337 N Belair Road, Evans, Georgia, 30809, on Monday, February 3, 2025, from 2-5pm.
