Teresa Ann Rutti Belchyk, 67, of Martinez, Georgia passed away on February 2, 2025.
She was born on October 2, 1957, in Augusta, Georgia. She was preceded in death by her parents, Harold E. and Doris W. Rutti, and her sister, Elaine Rutti Cain.
She is survived by her devoted husband of 45 years, Max P. Belchyk III and her children Max P. Belchyk IV (Marlena) and Emily Belchyk Carter (Josh). She will be missed by her beloved grandchildren, Angus Carter and Lily Carter, whom she often described as “my heart.”
Teresa is also survived by her sister Jo E. Maypole, and her two brothers R. Harold Rutti (Florinda) and Roger Rutti (Azita) and numerous nieces and nephews. She also leaves behind her loyal bulldog, Champ.
After Teresa graduated from Butler High School in 1976, she went on to study at Augusta State University where she earned a BS and master’s degree in education. After graduating she taught special education for over 30 years in both Richmond County and Columbia County public schools. As an accomplished Water Safety Instructor, she taught hundreds of children to swim and delighted in holding graduation ceremonies for even her smallest swimmers.
Teresa’s life story will be written in bright crayons. She often “colored outside the lines,” living by the motto, “you only live once.” She had a gift for seeing humor in almost any situation and touched many lives with her wit. She will be remembered fondly by many friends and family members for her love of family dinners, watching Angus play soccer and Lily play basketball, costume parties, margaritas, trips to Tybee Island and her colorful stories.
Teresa lived a full and joyful life, devoting her time to her family and friends. She was known for her care and concern for children with special needs, and her love of animals. She had a servant’s heart and was never too tired or too busy to help a friend or a stranger in need. The world is a little less bright today.
Services will be held at Platt’s Funeral Home at 10:00 a.m. on February 8, 2025. A visitation will be held at Platt’s one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Special Olympics Georgia or Columbia County Humane Society.
