Wilburn Hamilton Greer, born on November 28, 1938, passed away on September 8, 2024, in Augusta, Georgia. He was a deeply spiritual man, characterized by his determination, hard work, and profound love for life, family, and country.
Wilburn proudly served in the United States Marine Corps as a Lance Corporal (E-3) from 1958 to 1962, dedicating 4 years to serving his country with honor and commitment. Following his military service, he embarked on a diverse career that spanned several industries. He worked as a heavy truck driver operator, automotive repair technician specializing in both gasoline and diesel engines, aircraft repair technician and operator, and ultimately owned and operated a tow truck business.
Education was a cornerstone of Wilburn's life; he completed his high school education and furthered his knowledge by taking an Automotive Preventive Maintenance Course, skills that he applied throughout his career.
Wilburn's personal life was enriched by his hobbies and volunteer work. He was a long-standing member of Alcoholics Anonymous for 45 years, a testament to his commitment to recovery and community support. His skills in woodworking and automotive restoration were not just hobbies but passions that he pursued with zeal. He also volunteered to bring spiritual teachings to incarcerated men, reflecting his deep faith and desire to give back to the community. Additionally, Wilburn was deeply involved in stock car racing, serving as a pit crew supervisor, owner, and operator.
He is survived by his daughters, Arlene Rene Pepper and Alice Regina Kelly; grandsons, Daniel J. Imel; granddaughters, Amy, Amelia, Colleen, Kaitlyn, Zoe, and Samantha; and great-grandchildren, Chloe, Olivia, Owen, Emma, Evelynn, K.C., and Michael. His extended family in Florida are deeply saddened by his passing as are many family members that will certainly miss him. Wilburn was preceded in death by his parents, Malcolm Frank Greer and Nell Kidd-Greer; sons, Allen Roy Greer, Alvin Ray Greer, and Anthony Richard Greer; and siblings, Fred Gilbert, Polly Janette, Mary Alice, Betty Elaine, Buford Henry, Judy Darnell and Joel Thomas.
Wilburn Greer's legacy is carried forward not only by his family but also by the countless lives he touched through his professional endeavors, community service, and unwavering patriotism. His life's journey exemplifies a fulfilled life, marked by service, love, and an indomitable spirit.
