William F. "Billy" Miles

Augusta, Georgia - William F. Miles, Sr. (Billy), 86, went home to be with the Lord on March 16th, 2021, in Augusta, Georgia. He was an incredible husband, father, Poppa, and friend.

Billy was born in Augusta, Georgia on August 30, 1934, to Floyd Wilbur Miles, Jr. and Mary Jones Miles. He was one of A.L. Williams’ boys on the Academy of Richmond County (ARC) baseball team. He was batting .396 on the ARC Region 2-AA baseball team in 1953. He is a graduate of ARC and Augusta Technical School.

He married the love of his life, Dorothy Martin Miles (Dot), in 1953. They were married 68 years and were high school sweethearts.

He served in the Air Crash Rescue and Firefighting Unit of the United States Air Force for 6 years before beginning his work career at the Augusta Coca-Cola Bottling Co. He retired after 38 years of full-time service but continued to work with Coca-Cola an additional 2 years part-time.

He loved his family and enjoyed spending time with them. He taught them all how to fish and how to be people of character. Billy lived life to the fullest and set an example for us all. He always was sure to let the people in his life know how much he loved them. He was a man of his word, and one of his many mottos was, “Your word is your bond.”

Billy is remembered and survived by his wife: Dorothy Martin Miles; his 3 children: William F. Miles, Jr. (Renee), Jenine Miles Carter (Tracy), and Susan Miles McGahee; his 5 grandchildren: Brenton Douglas Carter (Tiffany), Megan Nicole McGahee, Jasmine Miles Rast (John), Lauren Ashley McGahee, and Bradley Miles Carter; his great grandchild: Grayson Miles Martin Carter; his brother: Jerry Wilbur Miles; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents: Floyd Wilber Miles, Jr. and Mary Jones Miles; his brother: Glenn Victor Miles; his grandchild: William F. Miles III; and his beloved mother-in-law: Mertie B. Martin.

The service will be held on Saturday, March 20th, 2021, at 2:00PM at The Sanctuary of Augusta (4584 Cox Rd, Evans, GA 30809). The service will be officiated by Pastor Bryan Cockrell and Reverend Michael Martin. Pallbearers will be Brent Carter, Bradley Carter, John Rast, Dwight Whitlock, Keith Greiner, and Tracy Kerr. A graveside service will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the CSRA Humane Society or The Sanctuary of Augusta, where he was a member.

Friends and family are asked to wear a mask or face covering, and social distancing will be practiced.
