Augusta, GA---Mr. Wilmer Warren Wallace, 91, departed from this life to be with the Lord on Thursday, July 28, 2011.
Funeral services will be held on Monday August 1, 2011 at 11:00 am in the Platt’s Crawford Avenue Chapel, with Dr. Gordon Reed officiating. Entombment will follow in the Westover Memorial Park Mausoleum.
Wilmer Wallace was born January 31, 1920 in Sardis Georgia, the son of the late William A. and Edna Mays Wallace. He moved to Louisville as a young boy and graduated from Louisville Academy in 1938. He studied art under Lamar Dodd and graduated with a degree in Fine Arts from the University of Georgia in 1942. He served in the United States Army Air Corps from 1942-1946.
Mr. Wallace worked as a commercial artist with Fine Products, Augusta, GA from 1947-1956, before he began his career with State Farm Insurance company as an agent.
Throughout his life, Mr. Wallace was a highly respected church leader, serving in the roles of Deacon, Elder and Elder Emeritus at First Presbyterian Church. He was a charter member of Christ Presbyterian Church. He and his wife, Georleen, worked in the children’s ministry in addition to their work with Child Evangelism Ministries.
Mr. Wallace was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. Of utmost importance to him was passing on his legacy of faith in Jesus Christ to his children and grandchildren. He loved sharing his faith with others and his life was a testimony of his faith in Christ.
He is preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Georleen, parents, Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Wallace; sisters, Gladys Wallace Mays, Lillian Smith, Mildred Rowland and his brother William Andrew Wallace, Jr.
Survivors include his two daughters, Dianne Dome and Kay Patton, husband Larry and stepson, Brant, two granddaughters, Shannon Boudreaux, husband Paul, Jessica Fuller, husband Adam, great grandchildren, Conner, Natalie, Elijah, Payton and Grayson, also his sister, Jean Aaron of Dalton, Georgia and several nieces and nephews.
The family would like to send a special thank you to the wonderful caregivers Mr. Wallace had in his last few years, especially Ms. Brenda Harden and Nicole Chapa. We would also like to thank Trinity Hospice for their care and loving support.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, July 31, 2011, from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Platt’s Crawford Avenue.
Pallbearers will be Hal Beman, Al Lovingood, George Bowen, John Clark, Jack O’Tyson and Philip Brinson.
