Windom Harrison Josey

November 27, 1931 — November 1, 2022

Windom Harrison Josey, 90, of Evans, Ga went home to be with our Lord on Nov 1, 2022.

Windom was born in Riddleville, GA to Windom Sr. and Mary Lou Josey on Nov. 27, 1931. He married Karen Francine Sheppard on February 7, 1973 in Augusta, GA.

Windom Josey was a lifelong entrepreneur. He started out in the country music business. He was an accomplished songwriter, with a #1 chart hit. His business ventures made him a well known fixture of the Augusta community. He never met a stranger and could sit and talk to anyone from his friend, James Brown to a homeless person in need. He was involved in real estate investments, owned a chain of wig stores, used car sales & insurance sales. He saw all people as children of God and treated everyone accordingly. He was a collector of “treasures” and a curator of memories. Windom always had a charismatic smile and often said he never had a bad day in his life. He lived by the virtue that every day was a gift. He had a love of music and passed that gift on to his children and grandchildren.

Windom was an esteemed member of Flowing Wells Worship Center. He was instrumental in the development of the current chapel and was the epitome of a faithful servant of God. Windom’s unyielding faith and love ventured beyond the walls of his church. He woke up each morning with a positive outlook, thankful that our Lord had given him another day to spread his love. Anyone that came in contact with Windom felt that love. He also used his musical gifts to spread joy to others through his gospel group, which he and his wife were a part of for many years.

His favorite bible verse was Isaiah 40:31 “But those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.” Although we grieve for his loss here on Earth, knowing that his spirit is free and residing in heaven with our Lord gives us peace and serenity.

Windom is preceded in death by his parents; infant brother, Winton; sister, Bessie Glover and Brother-in-law, Roy Glover.

Windom is survived by his loving wife and faithful caregiver, Karen. His children, Debra, Rhonda, Shawn (Jennifer), Kyle (Tarynn), Christian (Becky), Bradley, Christmas (Mike) Thomas and Jeff (Pam) Smith; 14 grandchildren, Dawn, Brandy, Jennifer, Baron, Sarah, Ian, Dylan, Logan, Steven, Brandon, Josey, Ava Grace, Cheyenne, David and Chad; 7 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild; his beloved niece, Susan Biles and nephew, John L. Glover, III.

Pallbearers will be Stetson Cromer, Charles Cromer, Michael Sheppard, Rodney Hollar, Randy Hollar, and Wayne Allen

Memorials may be made to Flowing Wells Worship Center, 1233 Flowing Wells Rd. Augusta, GA 30909 or New Bethel Church 1839 New Bethel, Davisboro, GA 31018.
