Yvonne Weems

Yvonne Weems, age 81, entered into rest on Thursday, April 8, 2021 at her home.

Yvonne had a deep love for family, friends, camping, traveling, and nature. She was a devoted Army wife for three decades of service. Always looking ahead for the next adventure, she has flown in hot air balloons and also white water rafted on the Chattahoochee River.
Yvonne met Neil while attending LSU. They married on February 25th, 1961 and spent the next 60 wonder-filled years together. Her support was unending.

Yvonne and Neil traveled the country extensively when they retired, seeing 48 states on a Goldwing with a camper for 26 years. They later traveled in an RV with their granddaughters for several weeks, and went on many adventures with the Masters City Riders Club.
Her never ending smile touched everyone she ever met, and so many were fortunate to call her a friend. And now, she is on another great adventure again.

Yvonne was the heart of her family- she was a loving and devoted wife, mother, Grandma, and Nana.

She is survived by her husband of 60 years, LTC Neil M. Weems, USA, Ret.; three children, Tracey Shaffer (Robert Jr.) of Grovetown, Sherry Welch (David) of Harlem, and Michael Weems of Harlem; brother, Gary Michael (Joan) of Cedar Hill, Texas; two grandchildren, Lindsey Shaffer (fiance, Brian Jones) and Katie Shaffer; and great grandchildren, Cayson Jones and Oakley Jones.

A celebration of Yvonne’s life will take place at 3:00 P.M. Saturday, April 17, 2021 in the Chapel of Platt’s Belair Road. The Reverend Al Crumpton will officiate. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at Platt’s.
