Rick was born on January 6, 1945, in Calera, Alabama. Rick and Sharron were married on August 23, 1964, and moved to Augusta, Georgia in 1972. Rick served on the faculty of the School of Medicine at the Medical College of Georgia where he taught Medical Ethics and Law from 1972 until his retirement in 2000. His contributions to the wellbeing and productivity of both faculty and students through his service in faculty government were substantial. He was instrumental in the founding of the human research committee and chaired it for many years. He was the local and state president of the American Association of University Professors where he worked to ensure fair and equitable treatment and pay for faculty and staff. He was considered an exceptional teacher and was often consulted informally by faculty facing difficult situations. Following retirement, he turned his life-long interest in the natural world and photography into a new profession, developing his passion for photography. He enjoyed over two decades of creating images with his camera, embracing the beauty about him, and appreciating the opportunity to share with others.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Habitat for Humanity are appreciated.
